The general hospital Abuochiche in Bekwara local government area of Cross River State was on 21st January 2015 commissioned and declared open for use by the Cross River State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke in company of the PDP gubernatorial flag bearer, Senator Ayade, and a host of others.
Speaking in the event which held at the hospital premises, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita appreciated the community and the government for their support.
She expressed joy while pointing out that the hospital was one of its kind because it was not only situated in a rural area where the need for it was high, but its services ran 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Shaking her head in excitement and accomplishment, she also pointed out that the beauty of everything is the presence of the electronic record keeping, the absence of strike, two 2-room apartments for doctors and four 4-room apartments for the nurses. These according to her will ensure that the hospital is up to standard and services are rendered on time.
Also speaking at the event was Dr. Sylvester Ebaye, the Medical Director, Bakor hospital. He assured the community and all those who will use the hospital of standard services like Ultra scan and x-ray units amongst others.
He expressed his commitment to work tirelessly to maintain the hospital while saying the presence of the hospital had created an avenue for indigenes to be employed.
In a brief chat with CrossRiverWatch, Dr. Ntamu Francis, Director of Bureau of Public-Private Partnership, who was described as a true son of the soil and the chief driver of this initiative by Gov. Imoke, said what makes the hospital unique and special is because it is a hybrid were public-private partnership comes to deliver services, absence of strikes and stories when it comes to keeping and checking of records, provision of rural health care, affordability and unique partnership.
Finally, before the project was officially commissioned, Gov.Imoke declared his commitment to the health sector saying: “A vision of change and serving people better requires commitment and often times it faces resistance.” He commended the effort of all the parties involved and also the Bekwarra community for their support. He urged everybody to come out and use the facility when necessary.
For the benefit of all who will have access to the hospital and use it, for the partnership and management team, and to the glory of God almighty, the hospital was declared open by Gov.Imoke at exactly 1:52:45pm Nigerian time.
