The Rivers State governor and Chairman of Buhari Campaign Organization, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi today said President Jonathan is not his brother and asked the people of the South South to also desist from deceiving themselves that because Jonathan is from the zone, he is their brother.

Amaechi was speaking today in Calabar while addressing supporters of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC who gathered to welcome the Presidential Candidate of the party, General Muhammadu Buhari to the Cross River State capital.

In an address that was intermittently interjected with responses from the crowd, Amaechi asked the audience: “Our President is from this our zone right? (A loud YES from the crowd).

“They say he is not developing Rivers state because he is quarreling with the governor of Rivers state right? (Another loud YES from the crowd).

“Is he quarreling with your governor? (A loud NO from the crowd)

“So why don’t you have development? It means your governor must be a bad man, he is not quarreling with the President so that he can give you road!

“Is he quarreling with the governor of Akwa Ibom? (Another loud NO from the crowd)

“Because I saw the Akwa Ibom state governor on television when they were inaugurating their Presidential campaign committee, it means he is not quarreling with the President so what about the road from Uyo to Cross River?

“What is the problem?

“The governor of Abia is from PDP right? (The crowd thundered another YES).

“Is he quarreling with the President? (The crowd shouted NO)

“Then what of the road from Uyo to Aba?

“How many of you have helicopter?

“The President does and he travels in it. I don’t have, I drive. I am trying to prove that the fact that he is from South-South does not mean he should go for us. The first term of his Presidency was because he is our brother, this second time is merit and achievement, you agree? (The crowd shouted YES).

“This second time is achievement and he has not achieved, if he has achieved he should do the road from Calabar to Uyo, and from Calabar to Ogoja, Calabar to Bakassi; do you have road? (The crowd shouted NO).

“Let him tell us why we should vote for him when there is a Buhari who says vote for me and I will reconstruct those roads.

“You can’t tell me you are my brother when you are not. My name is Rotimi Amaechi and my brother is that person from the same parent with me; you agree? (The crowd shouted YES).

“But let us allow the President and come to the issue of what are we going to do?

“If you vote for an APC governor we shall revive your oil palm company that will provide for you 5000 workers. APC has promised that in the next 4 years minimal you will have 3 million new jobs and you need to know that business can only thrive if we fix our roads. I can assure you that our incoming President will fix our roads, he will fight corruption and the money gotten from fighting of corruption as he has promised will be used to develop our rural areas and therefore I enjoin all from Cross River not to listen to that story that he is our brother, our brother who has refused to give us money or do things from us or send us to school, he is not our brother! Is he our brother? (The crowd thundered a loud NO).

“My brother is the man who make good things happen to me.”

Good points raised by Governor Ameachi. But your excellency Sir, is it today u started noticing the roads u mentioned. U have been in govt for 7 years now u had the opportunity to speak with the president on this issues when u guys were still in good terms but u didn’t. It is today that ur party wants vote that is when u remember we have bad roads that Ur party will construct. Bross boys don mature this promises don’t move us again. Try
something better. The man u re fighting for his region has been in government for over 30 years didn’t there see this roads all this while before Jonathan came on board. Buhari’s region has been troubling the existing government for over 5 years how then can he settle down and work. Free this young man Ameachi..

This is the problem with personality politics; talking about persons rather than policies. It is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. When will we ever learn?
