The Labour Party candidate for Bekwarra/Obudu/Obanliku Federal Constituency in the forthcoming election, Godwin Amanke says that the People Democratic Party, PDP has no eligible candidate for the seat.
The former Chairman of Obanliku Local Government Area, popularly known as ‘Timaya’ made this known while addressing supporters at Government primary school Mgbenege, Utugwang North Ward, Obudu Local Government Area.
He stressed that the primaries conducted by the PDP contravened provisions in the electoral act 2011 and said he is contesting the issues in court. He also urged his supporters to vote Labour Party candidates in the forthcoming elections.
“The electoral act says that primaries should be conducted in the constituency designated by INEC. Section 87 sub-section D (1) of the electoral act says that if a primary election is not conducted in its constituency but taken to another constituency it becomes null. This nullity means it did not hold at all. The PDP primaries were taken from Obudu not to Obanliku or Bekwarra but Ogoja in another constituency, so PDP does not have any candidate for Federal House of Representatives”, Amanke maintained.
“Don’t vote for PDP as your vote will be wasted, I am already in court, it is late for them to withdraw or substitute a candidate, it is not possible. Whatever they do, it is for me, just vote for me and other Labour Party candidates”, the LP flag bearer asserted, thereby drawing loud cheers from the supporters.
