The Management of the University of Calabar has declared that the e-voting system used in conducting elections into the SUG “has come to stay,” and those moving around brewing up trouble in the name of opposing the system should be cautious of what their actions might lead to.
This statement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof James Epoke at a town-hall meeting organized by the management in conjunction with the Students´Union Government so as to bridge the communication gap between students of the institution and management.
The declaration came as a result of some students who have formed a group to pressure the management into reversing its decision on the adoption of the e-voting system.
The students accused the management of using the e-voting system to install their stooges into the SUG excos.
The students who had planned to stage a peaceful protest would have finally be cowed out of taking any action with the stern warning from the Vice-Chancellor.
It would be recalled that the University of Calabar adopted the e-voting system after protests by students during the last election led to the shooting of two students.
