The member representing Obubra 2 state constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, CRSHA, Dr. Elucate, Ekom Okora has denied allegations that he promised a criminal gang, Supreme Vikings Confraternity, SVC any political appointment which has resulted in the death of one person in his constituency.
Sources in Obubra had informed CrossRiverWatch that intra gang wrangling over the position of Special Assistant that Hon. Elucate promised members of the gang for working for him during the last general election had led to the shooting of one Amadi, Okpa Ebony, a member of the gang, who was allegedly shot at close range on arrival at a meeting convened by the gang on the 7th of June, 2015 at the Presbyterian Primary School, Apiapum Obubra.
But reacting to enquiries by CrossRiverWatch, Hon. Elucate said the allegations were the handwork of “political jobbers, political distracters, and mischief of the greatest order carried out by those who are out to perforate his image”.
Explaining his case, Hon. Okora said, “The man who died happens to be my friend and we are from the same community. The father is a former House of Assembly member in Cross River state although their tenure was cut short by the military junta and the uncle who is Hon. Nicholas Agbor was the chairman of our campaign organization, so he had been with us since the beginning”.
Dr. Elucate denied ever promising members of the gang any appointment, saying he got to know that the deceased was a member of the gang only after his demise. “We left Amadi in Calabar to attend the House of Representatives inauguration in Abuja. It was while there we received a call that he had been shot dead, and that is when we got to find out he was a member of a fraternity”, he quickly added.
Hon. Ekom who spoke through his legislative aide, Wani Enang maintained that, “It is unimaginable for someone to say Hon. Okora promised a criminal gang appointment for assistance in winning the elections. I don’t know how many members of the cult are they to make us win the election”.
The lawmaker urged those who lost out in the elections to stop fermenting trouble and join hands with him in lifting their constituency from the abyss.
