CrossRiverWatch has gathered that one person has been shot dead and others severely wounded in Obubra local government of Cross River State, in a disagreement over a political appointment promised by a state lawmaker representing the area.
The dead man, Mr. Amadi Okpa Ebony, who is a member of a criminal gang, Supreme Vikings Confraternity, was allegedly killed by his own comrades in an intra-gang fighting over who should get the promised position.
An insider who spoke to CrossRiverWatch on anonymity for fear of reprisal confirmed the incident.
The source revealed that, after the 2015 general election when Hon. Elucate Ekom Okora emerged as the Member Elect representing Obubra 2 State Constituency and promised members of the gang who supported him during the campaigns that he will make one of them a Personal Assistant.
According to our source, members of the gang agreed by consensus that the position be given to one of their members whose name was not revealed, from Adun area, Obubra.
But trouble started when, contrary to their expectation, when the appointment was finally made, the position was given to the now deceased member of the gang known, Amadi Okpa Ebony from Okum area of the same local government area, the source added.
Amadi was then summoned to a meeting with other members of the gang on Sunday, 7th June, 2015 evening in a classroom at Presbyterian primary school Apiapum, where on arrival he was shot dead and other of his supporters within the gang were also heavily pounced on and beaten thoroughly, leaving them with grave injuries.
As at the time of filing this report, the Member representing Obubra State Constituency 2, Hon. Ekom Okora was not reachable. CrossRiverWatch made several attempts to get his reaction but he only sent back a text message informing our reporter that “In a training session now please kindly let me call you soon”.
