The Rule Of Law Should Not Be A Political Slogan But A Way Of Living – Donald Duke

Mr. Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River State has urged the incumbent, Senator Ben Ayade to intensify his disciplinary measures in his bid to move the state forward.

Donald Duke made the call while speaking as a special guest at the 10th memorial anniversary of late Justice Peter Odo Effiong Bassey in Calabar saying “If the street of Calabar is littered with garbage there should be consequences for those responsible”.

He went further to state “The rule of law should not be a political slogan; rather it should be our way of living. When the judiciary turns a blind eye to crime our society crashes, cripples and breakdown.”

While decrying the general attitude of politicians in the country, Duke however advocated that consequences, as the base of democracy, should also be the basis of good governance. Adding that “man did not invent consequences the Almighty did, the divine law invented consequences to keep humanity in check.”

Don, as he is fondly called averred that “In real terms, that arm of government that defines the society is the judiciary”. Adding that “The better approach to governance is when we strive to do the right thing”.
