A total of nine trucks carrying stone chippings from quarries in Akamkpa have been impounded by the Cross River Government for evasion and defaulting in the payment of the legally prescribed amount for lifting such chippings.
The State Security Adviser, Mr. Jude Ngaji who disclosed this to some newsmen in his office in Calabar, Tuesday said that in the past, these companies/truck owners have devised a means of defrauding the state of its legitimate sources of revenue.
Mr. Ngaji explained that instead of paying the official prescribed Twelve Thousand (N12, 000.00) Naira per track and per a trip as required, the drivers of the nine trucks decided to escape and left their trucks behind.
He explained that those involved in such dubious undertaking of deliberately depriving the state of its legitimate sources of internally generated revenue by always evading payment while at the other hand are making millions daily from the state do not meant well for Cross River.
The SSA warned that government will not take it lightly with any company or group of persons who derives joy in denying the state what is due to it through dubious activities and that those who connive with such elements will also not be spared when caught.
On the overall security situation of the state, the SSA asserted that due to the sustained fight by the state government against criminals and criminal activities in Cross River, crime rate has reduced appreciably.
Mr. Ngaji then called on all Cross Riverians and other Nigerians residing and carrying out their legitimate businesses in the state to support the Senator Ben Ayade led administration‘s effort at building and sustaining a peaceful, and crime-free environment where every person is free to carry out his or her lawful endeavors without fear of being molested by criminals.
