Cross River State Government has restated its commitment to ensure the state remains a safe haven for tourism and business in the country.
Governor of the state, Senator Ben Ayade, disclosed this while presenting a fleet of brand new vehicles to the state owned security outfit known as “Operation Skolombo” with a charge that the state must “remain a state known for its elegance, because proper life style begins and stops in Calabar.”
Ayade disclosed that the reinforcement was imperative because “it could be recalled and recounted that of late, there has been incessant harassment of the public by little armed bandits and miscreants known as skolombo boys and there was need to terminate their operations before they got out of hand.”
He said that the pickup vans would enable the outfit carry out its assignment because the entire state and the country looks up to it, stressing that, “We want those coming for the carnival to enjoy their stay here and ensure that tourists in Calabar find it a safe place as well as a right place for holiday, tourism and leisure.
“The vehicles are to ensure your activities are improved and energized and to ensure you do not just excel in your duties but take it to a new height. Calabar is worthy of this new security outfit for it to reclaim its status as the safest city in the country and a place where one can have a new night life,” he charged.
He expressed his satisfaction with the outfit since its formation and said it was a confirmation that the state took a right decision in constituting it.
Responding, Chairman of Operation Skolombo, Brigadier General Mannis Nyiam Rtd, promised to do their best and assured that the state will witness tremendous improvement in security before the yuletide.
He lauded the governor for his kind gesture and pledged the outfit’s readiness to rid the state of miscreants.
