The second edition of the Adamade Odey Football Competition rounded off yesterday at the Chief J.D. Agba’s Township Stadium in Obudu with the final match between Ipong United and Global FC.
Global FC won the trophy after defeating Ipong United by 2 goals to 1. In the third place match, Utugwang Central FC defeated Angiaba Begiaka FC to come third.
Winners of the competition, Global FC took home N100,000 and the winners trophy; while the 2nd placed team took home N50,000; and the 3rd placed team won N30,000 with a consolation prize of N20,000 for the 4th placed team.
Among the prizes were also individual awards for the Most Valuable Player, MVP of the competition, the best referee of the competition, highest goal scorer prize among others.
The annual competition scheduled as part of activities to mark the Obudu new yam festival is sponsored by Mr. Adamade Odey Esq, a senior in-house counsel with the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC.
The inaugural edition of the competition held September 2014 among 20 teams and was won by the Hilltop Pensioners Football Team after defeating Youngsters of Obudu on penalties.
Participating teams in this year’s edition increased to 24 cutting across all the ten political wards in Obudu.
Organizers of the competition have also called on government and other well meaning Cross Riverians to partners with them to grow the competition to a bigger level next year.
The final match and closing ceremony had several dignitaries in attendance.
