The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC has risen in stout defence of an earlier rejection to join the unity government proposed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP government of Senator Ben Ayade in Cross River state.
The party said the ruling PDP government was deficient in so many ways “accounting for its abysmal failure in governance”.
It also said “The PDP has a gargantuan appetite for corrupt tendencies, hence its desire to either tap from the creativity of the APC to sanitize its house or rope our members and our party into the mess.”
The APC further warned its members to “run miles away from this appearance of evil” adding that anyone caught negotiating with the PDP on account of the unity government proposal against the lawful directives of the national leadership will be sanctioned according to relevant statutes of the party.
National Vice Chairman, South South, of the APC, Hilliard Eta who conveyed the decision of the national leadership on the proposed unity government by Senator Ayade in a statement, said members risk severe sanctions if they hobnob with the PDP over the offer.
He maintained that on corrupt tendencies of the PDP government for instance, “We recently read reports of how genuinely recruited science teachers into the state school system were short changed after being forced to pay heavy amounts of money by the PDP government officials for the recruitment exercise, a development that has led to public outcry and protest by the victims.
Yet, the Ayade’s government does not care a hoot! The question we ask is; is that the kind of government APC should identify with or its members should join to form a common front?”
The statement further stated that posterity will never forgive anyone who appreciates unfettered corruption and impunity instead of preaching and embracing change.
It said “Rather than join the Ayade’s PDP, the reverse should be the case where the PDP members should come for cleansing and a new lease of life.”
