The Cross River state government has commenced palliative work on the Calabar-Odukpani-Itu road to ameliorate the pain that road users have had to endure on the road which has become impassable and responsible for the intractable Odukpani junction traffic gridlock.
The federal highway has remained in a terrible state, subjecting motorists and other users to long nights at the bad spots on journeys that should take shorter travel time.
Several motorists who responded expressed their feelings about the ongoing repair work were happy that work has commenced on the bad road and hoped it will be completed on time. They eulogized the state governor, Senator Ben Ayade and urged him not to relent in his effort to develop the state.
The Director (Civil) in Cross River Works Ministry, Engineer Godwin Akeke, also said the intervention exercise will continue in view of the encouraging weather so as to deliver on the mandate as directed by the governor.
“What we are doing now is to stabilize the sub-green, remove unsuitable materials from what you can see, stabilize with hardcore, come up with stone-base and re-asphalt the road”. Akeke said.
He assured that as soon as the Calabar-Odukpani-Itu road is fixed, the intervention would move to Akpabuyo road, so as to ease movement of people and goods.
