The gale of defections from the PDP to APC continued in Cross River State yesterday in Governor Ayade’s Obudu Local Government with the cross over of a former member of the House of Representatives and immediate past Commissioner representing Cross River state in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Hon. Paul Adah and a host of supporters to the APC in Betukwel village.
In a huge political rally that began with his registration at the Begiading Ward office of APC in neighbouring Ohong village, the rally later returned to Betukwel were several chieftains of the APC had gathered to welcome the former PDP strong man into his new political family.
The Chairman of the Senate ad hoc Committee on Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye, while welcoming Hon. Paul Adah into APC tore Adah’s Peoples Democratic Party membership card and the party’s constitution while singing “PDP don fall for ground o! March am! March am!”
Melaye said the PDP had failed to meet the aspirations of the people of Nigeria and assured the crowd that the APC was poised to take over Cross River state in the next election. He berated PDP leaders for the present economic woes of the country and for living corruption as the only legacy after 16 years of running Nigeria and urged Cross Riverians to have faith in the determination of this government to fight corruption and rebuild infrastructure.
Also on present at the occasion were the immediate past Chairman of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service, CRIRS and former PDP governorship aspirant, Dr. Peter Oti who has also decamped to APC, Senator Isah Hamman, the National Vice-Chairman of the APC, South-South, Mr. Hilliard Eta, Venatius Ikem, the Obudu Chapter Chairman of APC, Mr. Mathias Ugbelishor, Begiading Ward Chairman of the APC, Mr. Charles Betelwhobel, John Upan Odey, PJ Ekunke, Moses Utsu, Victor Afebende, and three Ward Chairmen of the PDP who also decamped along with Hon. Adah.
Responding, Adah after resigning his fifteen years membership of the PDP, he will work hard to bring change to Cross River state. He said he was living the PDP, the party he served diligently for over a decade because the party no longer has space for progressives to contribute to the development of the state.
It will be recalled that the PDP in Obudu Local government has been seriously decimated with the exit of several strong members of the party like Mr. Venatius Ikem, Prince Jedy Agba, Dr. Peter Oti, PJ Ekunke among others.
While a former guber aspirant, Francis Bullem has also decamped from the PDP to APC in Ogoja, and Fidelis Ugbo too in Obanlikwu, former governor Clement Ebri, former Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba SAN, Chief Alex Egbuna have also left the PDP to the APC in the Central Senatorial District of the State.
