The First lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Aisha Buhari will on Monday, 18th April, 2016 be at Ikom Local Government to flag-off the Maternal New Born and Child Health Week and commission two comprehensive health centers in Ikom.
The Wife of the President who will be joined by the First Lady of Cross River state, Dr. Linda Ayade, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Mrs Inyang Asibong, DG Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, amongst others will also flag off Project Future Assured, her pet project that is aimed at advocating for several things including primary healthcare under one roof, one functional Primary Health Center in every ward, Universal Health Coverage among other things.
The first lady will also be launching the Mediatrix Development Foundation (MDF) an initiative of Mrs. Linda Ayade that aims to take both health care and welfare packages to people especially in the rural and hard to reach areas in the state.
According to the DG, CRSPHCDA, Dr. Betta Edu, the President’s wife “was selected for the commissioning because we see her as a maternal and child health advocate, who is championing the cause for women and child health in Nigeria and we equally see Dr. Linda Ayade as another champion and so we decided that for this week, we should be having the presence of these champions advocating and mobilizing resources to tackle maternal and child health issues”.
