Erudite campus journalist and Publisher of crossriverdaily.com, Comrade Onun Endurance has picked the nomination form to contest as President in the 2016 Students Union Government (SUG) election of the University of Calabar, UNICAL.
Comrade Endurance who was yesterday accompanied by some union stakeholders on campus to the office of the CUECO (Calabar University Electoral Commission) Secretary, took the first official step to his aspiration when he paid the sum of ten thousand (N10,000) to express his interest for the election slated for April, 29th.
Fielding questions from members of Nigerian Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ) immediately after he picked the form, Comrade Endurance said that the time to reconcile the differences between the school management and the students’ union government is now.
“As you all know, there has been, especially recently, pieces of dissension between Management and the students and I strongly believe that the time to bridge this difference is now,” Comrade Onun said.
Further explaining his plans, the young Publisher of CrossRiverDaily, an online news platform reporting Cross River State, assured that the Vice Chancellor has good plans for the students and that what is needed to bring this plans to fruition is a good working relationship between the school management and students.
“Like you all have been hearing me say, the school management under the leadership of Professor Zana Akpagu has lofty and ravishing plans for us but the truth remains that these plans cannot be made material if we are towing a different path or chanting a different course from the management,” he said.
About his visions should his aspiration become a reality, the Presidential hopeful said equitable representation would take center-stage.
“The first and fundamental duty of any SUG President is representation. If by God’s grace this aspiration of mine sails through, then University of Calabar should be certain that equitable and unprejudiced representation has finally come.
The representation of my fellow students before the school management and that of the management before my fellow students would be so judiciously balanced that no body and soul in this community would have any cause whatsoever for alarm,” he said.
Finally, when asked of his blueprint should the students give him this mandate he aspires, Comrade Onun said: “Meanwhile it is not yet time for me to make public my programs as the campaign ban is yet to be lifted, however, Team Endurance Onun has completed arrangements with one of the I.T companies in Lagos to see how the students can be enjoying free but excellent Wifi services from Main Campus down to UNICAL Farms plus free transportation around campus.”
