As part of its outreach activities, beginning Saturday May 21, 2016, Mediatrix Development Foundation, a non governmental initiative of the Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, will be offering specialized health services to residents of Ikom and Yakurr local government areas in Cross River State.
Mediatrix Foundation is partnering with Faith Care International and the health sector in Cross River State to deliver free quality specialized health services to the people of Ikom LGA from 21st – 25th May 2016, at Comprehensive Primary Health Center Ikom and the people of Yakurr LGA from 25th – 29th of May, at General Hospital, Ugep.
The outreach which began yesterday in Ikom had on offer numerous services that drew several women, children and men to the newly renovated health center in Ikom.
Services rendered include surgeries both major and minor, medical consultation, laboratory investigation for most diseases, pharmaceutical services, free medications, maternity services, health education and promotions with counselling and prayers.
On ground to give support on day one of the free health outreach was the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu.
She noted that the turn-out was impressive as the team of 35 doctors had seen over 400 persons and done 6 surgeries.
She thanked the Wife of the Governor, Dr. Linda Ayade for keeping her words and reaching out to people in these 2 LGAs with specialized care.
She said the exercise saw the safe delivery of 3 babies, one female named after Linda Ayade and 2 males, one named after the Governor, Ben Ayade.
The DG further noted that the exercise will not only benefit the people of these communities but will strengthen the health care system in the state.
She expressed joy that the staff at the comprehensive primary health care center, Ikom were also receiving some on-the-job training from the visiting doctors.
She equally noted that the exercise will help pull more patient traffic from the communities to the health facilities, especially mothers who are encouraged to deliver in the health facilities with skilled birth attendants in order to reduce maternal mortality.
Dr. Betta, commended the effort of the Governor, Senator Ben Ayade whom she said has been transforming the health sector in the state and also extoled the efforts of the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong noting that she is strongly supportive of the exercise.
She enjoined everyone in Ikom and Yakurr who has the need, to take advantage of this kind gesture of the Wife of the Governor to receive specialized care.
“If you have a relative or you know anyone in Ikom and Ugep that needs surgery send them here to access the best quality of care for free!”
