The Cross River State Police Command has said that no arrest has been made after the series of robberies that Calabar the State capital has witnessed within the week.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo while responding to enquiries from CrossRiverWatch said the command was still on the trail of the bandits who have been terrorising residents relentlessly.
CrossRiverWatch enquiries were necessitated by increasing allegations by a cross section of Cross Riverians that the police are complicit in the un-abating robbery incidents and are not leaving up to expectation.
But the State PPRO debunked the allegations saying the Police is doing their best to ensure the citizens continue to have a peaceful and crime free Calabar.
“Immediately calls are out to us, we try to send men down, the police are trying their possible best to ensure that this issue of robbery and kidnapping in Cross River State is not heard. It’s a home of peace. Whatever they are saying is not true, we are always there at the right time on any incident”.
When asked if any arrest has been made following the spate robberies most of which now take place in broad day light, she said: “Like I said the Commissioner has put up a new strategy and by the grace of God we are working towards achieving this goal, no arrest has been made”.
She defended the response time of Police to distress calls saying they always arrive the crime scene promptly “Of course they always try their best to be there when the call is through to them, like yesterday incident according to what we heard, when we arrived the scene we took the phone numbers stolen and have sent them to Abuja for tracking of the criminals”.
It will be recalled that CrossRiverWatch has reported series of unchallenged robberies in the state capital where the police did not show up at all or arrived the crime scene after the robbers have finished their business and departed.
