No Local Government In Cross River Is Under Militants Control – Police

By Our Correspondent

The Cross River State Police Command has debunked news by some national dailies that two Local Councils in the state, Bakassi and Akpabuyo LGAs, have been over run by a militant group, the Bakassi Strike Force.

The Commissioner made this disclosure while leading other Service Commanders from the Army, Navy, Mopol and the Air Force to Akpabuyo and Bakassi Local Government Areas to have a first-hand knowledge of the situation on ground and to further buttress the fact that the Local Government Areas are peaceful.

Leading a convoy of the military and paramilitary to both councils in a show of force operation, Police Commissioner, Jimoh Ozi-Obeh disclosed to newsmen that no part of the state has been overtaken by any militant group.

He sued for calm on the part of residents reassuring them that all security agencies in the state remain committed to their safety as there is no cause for alarm.

Meanwhile, some residents who came out at the busy bitch Market in Bakassi to welcome the convoy said that they have had no reason to flee to Cameroon or live in panic. They also took a swipe at those who reported or insinuated that militants had over run their communities.
