The Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON) may soon berth in Cross River State following the indication of interest of some online media practitioners in the state to join the body after an inaugural meeting held in Calabar where pro tem leaders emerged.
This information was contained in the minutes mailed to CrossRiverWatch by one Francis Ifop of Calabarreporters, which disclosed that 7 online media practitioners were in attendance where it was agreed there was need to expedite action to get the body registered.
According to the document, the presiding officer, one Obaji Akpet of Crossrivereyes stated that the association was a national body that is already in existence with membership open to only news site owners only while the Association of Cross River Online Journalists (ACROJ) which has been in existence in the state was open to publishers and staff of news sites reporting Cross River State.
Following calls by Edem Edem of Citizenreporters for the body to get a pro-term leadership, Steve Onoh of the state owned and operated ngchronicle.com nominated Obaji and Efio-Ita Nyok of Negroidhaven with most members in concurrence excluding Vitalis Ugoh of Paradiseeagle.com who nominated Endure Onun of Crossriverdaily.com who declined the nomination.
Also, those present agreed that the document be forwarded to the national body to indicate their resolve to join AMPON.
Efforts by CrossRiverWatch to get comments from the national body proved futile as researches done on the body only brought up news items about the chairman, one Wole Arisekola, elected in 2015 and nothing about the organisation itself.
