The need for cross Riverians and Nigerians at large to speak and understand their native vernacular is important for the sustenance of the African culture says the beauty queen Asuquo Ekpe at her birthday bash last week.
Born, Magdalene Asuquo Ekpe, the 2016 Qua/Ejagham Nation beauty queen posited that communicating in borrowed languages has not really helped matters and called on all Qua and Ejagham nationals to learn how to communicate I their native vernacular.
Also, she called on the state government to bring back news in Ejagham and advised youths to humble themselves so they can accomplish their dreams.
The manager of the pageant, Bassey Asim told CrossRiverWatch on the sidelines of the event held at the former wine bar in Calabar that he had faith Magdalene will succeed in her pet project of ensuring all Qua and Ejagham sons and daughters know how to communicate effectively in their respective vernaculars.
Bassey said that the queen had already visited the paramount rulers of Ikom and Etung local government areas to promote her pet projects which also includes building a school for the Qua and Ejagham people to revive their language and a medical centre to support the less privileged in the society.
