For civil and public servants in Cross River State, Christmas has come very early as the state government paid workers December salary today.
The state governor, Senator Ben Ayade had at a recent retreat for political appointees held at the Obudu Ranch Resort given a hint that salary for the month of December will be paid on the first day of the month.
In keeping with his words, workers in the state got salary alerts from their various banks today.
It would be recalled that workers in the state got their May salary on May 1st.
And just last month, salary was paid on November 15th.
Some workers expressed delight at the early payment of salary ahead of the yuletide.
Speaking recently on why he pays salaries earlier, Ayade had said he only feels challenged when he pays salary early.
“Any governor can pay salary on the 25th of every month. For me, that is not what I like because it is not challenging. It is nothing extraordinary.”
He however, urged workers in the state to be prudent in how they spend their salary.
He however, promised to be “there should you run into any financial difficulties before end of January,” a statement workers believe is a hint that salary for the month of January May also come early.
