Officers of the Mobile Police (MOPOL) arm of the Nigerian Police Force on transit to Calabar Friday beat up revenue agents in Obubra for blocking their convoy.

The MOPOL officers travelling in a ‘Black Maria’ and a Toyota Hilux Van were stopped by revenue agents at the gate of Ovonum in Obubra campus of the Cross River University of Technology who threw a log of wood with nails attached to obstruct their vehicle.

This, may have infuriated the MOPOL officers who jumped out of the two vans and chased the agents who ran to the home of their boss, one Monday Oden an eyewitness told CrossRiverWatch.

Arriving the home of Mr. Oden, the MOPOL officers beat up anyone whom they could lay their hands on and arrested him while some of their colleagues pulled down the shanty used as shade by the agents and dumped it in a nearby ravine.

The officers then sped away to Calabar.

As at press time it could not be ascertained if the MOPOL officers are of the MOPOL 11 Command in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Also, efforts to reach the Police command for comments proved abortive as several calls to the line of the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Ugbo did not connect.
