CrossRiverWatch has obtained details of Mr. Raphael Odu, a suspect in the attack of suspended University of Calabar (UNICAL) lecturer, Mr. Joseph Odok last week Monday in Calabar.
Mr. Odok was stabbed in the shoulder and breast and CrossRiverWatch has since gathered that Mr. Odu was arrested by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and handed over to the Police where he is still in custody.
Mr. Odu is currently a Director in the newly created Department of Homeland Security in the office of the Governor, Cross River State and is the alleged lover of Patience Odey, the lady whom Mr. Odok said had been used to set him up.
Both orchestrated the attack, CrossRiverWatch gathered with Odok alleging that his former student, Mr. Chris Abang aided them, an allegation Mr. Abang denies.
And, Ms. Odey is said to have been released by the DSS and has absconded to Lagos state with her phone lines switched off while the Police command in the state, his written the DSS to transfer custody since she is the principal suspect.
But, the DSS and Police had earlier said that Ms. Odey was in Police custody with both agencies telling CrossRiverWatch that the attack on Mr. Odok was not an assassination attempt but one borne out of his alleged involvement in fraudulent activities an allegation Odok has denied.
CrossRiverWatch has been reliably informed that there is huge pressure from government officials to intervene in the matter with the Police standing their ground.
Officers directly involved in the matter are said to have come under intense pressure including inducement from the deluge of visitors who have been flooding the police state command headquarters at Diamond hill, Calabar.
Mr. Odu hails from Mbube in Ogoja Local Government Area of northern Cross River and was a special assistant to immediate past chairperson of the council, Mrs. Rita Agbo Ayim.
He is an old student of Mary Knoll College, Okuku and is said to be in his early forties.
A football fan, Mr. Odu seemingly supports the Arsenal football club of England with his last public Facebook activity being the sharing of an Arsenal fan page post on August 22, 2017.
His profile picture also carries the Arsenal FC logo; a canon.
Below is a link to a profile suspected to be that of Mr. Odu.
Mr. Odu is said to have previously served first in the Army, left and later in the Police and also left. It is not clear whether he retired from both.
His known alias is “Defender.”
