UNICAL Secures Approval To Commence JUPEB Examinations

The University of Calabar UNICAL, has secured approval for affiliation with the Joint Universities Preliminary Education Board JUPEB.

The school apllied to be affiliated with the new examination Board on the 17th of July 2017 and in a letter to the VC of UNICAL, signed by Professor Duro Ajeyalemi, the Registrar and Chief Executive of JUPEB, the Board said, having conducted their Pre Affiliation Visit PAV, to the school, they have granted approval for UNICAL to be affiliated to the examination Board and begin the conduct JUPEB examinations for under graduate admission seekers.

Part of the letter reads: “Further to your University’s request of 17 July 2017, to affiliate with the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board JUPEB, the Board paid a Pre Affiliation Visit PAV, to your institution from 17th – 18th of September 2012.

“I am pleased to convey to you that on behalf of the JUPEB Governing Board, the Chairman Professor R.A. Bello, has approved the recommendation of the PAV Team that your University should be granted Full Affiliation to JUPEB. This approval will be ratified at the next Governing Board meeting. That is, your University is now approved as a center for JUPEB examination. Congratulations.

The letter further discussed the financial implication for the school.

“Your university is requested to pay an affiliation fee of one million, five hundred thousand Naira.”

The fee is renewable with N250,000 after satisfactory performance, after which the institution shall become free to:

i. Advertise for and recruit candidates for JUPEB foundation Program.

ii. Commence teaching of the Foundation candidates with the JUPEB syllabus for each subject,

iii. Register their candidates for 2018 JUPEB examination at a fee of N25,000 per student.

iv. Purchase a copy of the JUPEB syllabus for N1000 for each candidate and tutor and

v. Facilitate the conduct of the examination within your premises based on guidelines from JUPEB.

The Board however warned that the approval of affiliation is subject to review if the school fails to conduct itself in consonance with the norms of JUPEB or any deterioration of resources as required by JUPEB will attract sanctions including suspension and/or withdrawal of affiliation.

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is a national examinations body approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria in December 2013.

It was formally established in April 2014 by a consortium of ten (10) partnering universities led by the University of Lagos.

The program is specifically designed to provide an opportunity for candidates who cannot gain admission to regular degree programs in Nigerian Universities for one reason or the other, as the program only requires candidates O’level results and JAMB result.

Also awaiting result candidate can Enrol and this time around into 200 level.
