Two Arrested Over Policemen Murder In Ugep

Two suspects have been arrested over the murder of two policemen in Ugep community of Yakurr local government area police sources say.

The two suspects whose names could not be revealed are currently being detained and questioned at the Ugep divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Police.

Inspector Ofem Abani Eteng from Ketabebe-Ijom clan of Ugep and Corporal Chris Uket from Mkpani community were shot dead by unknown gunmen at their duty post opposite the Institute of Technology and Management, Ugep at 8:30 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 with an AK 47 rifle taken from them.

The sources say they were supposed to be a four man team but only the above named two had arrived as at the time their beat had begun which made them proceed to the duty post before the other two.

Inspector Eteng died on arrival at a hospital in Ugep and Corporal Uket who was referred, died minutes after preparations had begun to transport him to Calabar for further treatment.

CrossRiverWatch gathered that prior to this, the Police division had embarked on a spree of arrests with over 50 commercial cylists questioned and their motorcycles detained for between three (3) to twenty-four (24) hours.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Mr. Uket will be buried this February with family members said to be pressuring their colleagues to bring his killers to book.
