Enetiet Edet Asuquo, an inmate of the Adim prison in Biase local government area of southern Cross River State has been rearrested hours after he escaped.

Mr. Asuquo had escaped early Sunday morning and a manhunt had ensued with security sources saying officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service had to seek the aid of other prisoners to search for Mr. Asuquo in the bush.

The officials are said to have later enlisted the help of a popular club in Ijiman, Ugep community of Yakurr local government area called the ‘Aso Rock Club’ urging them to be on the lookout for a suspicious male wearing a black shirt and trouser.

Members of the club are said to have captured Mr. Asuquo along Idomi road in Ugep and handed him over to the Prisons officials who expressed gratitude and commended the club’s willingness to work with them in rearresting the escaped inmate.

The inmate told CrossRiverWatch that: “I am from Akwa State. I was arrested because I beat my girlfriend.

“I have served nine months in Akwa Ibom prison before they transferred me to this prison.

“The reason why I ran is because they always beat me everyday in the prison. My father is dead.”
