By Njagu Monica

A suspected armed robber was on Thursday night burnt to death by angry youths at Mayne Avenue in Calabar South local government area of southern Cross River State.

The victim, CrossRiverWatch gathered from residents, was part of a three man gang that had attempted to rob a pharmaceutical shop at the Mayne Avenue by Adam Duke axis.

The group is said to have tied the owner of the pharmacy while closing up and shot him. The gunshot is said to have alerted neighbors who immediately mobilised and chased after them.

Two are said to have escaped with the unlucky one piled with worn out tires and burnt after severe beatings at about 8:00PM.

The action elicited mixed reactions from residents. One who her name as Mary said: “They could have given him a second chance, if God begins to punish us this way each time we sin, then we are not going to survive at all. Why is wickedness at the back of our minds? They have just sent a living soul to hell, his blood will be on their heads, I am speechless.”

Another resident who did not want his name in print told CrossRiverWatch that: “They deserve it, this is the only way they can be stopped because the Police will release them after locking them up for a while.”

The menace of jungle justice had slowed in the past three weeks after a string of killings across the State with the Police warning residents against taking laws into their hands.
