The Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Cross River State chapter Dr. Lawrence Ekwok has declared that the Church as a body would through prayers and massive voting be instrumental to the emergence of the next Governor of the State.

Dr. Ekwok stated this on Sunday during a Town Hall Meeting organised by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, and its affiliates, Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, CPFN, to interact with Governorship candidates of political parties contesting for the Governorship slot of the State.

He said going by the large membership of the Churches in the State, whoever the Church decides to vote for in any election would emerge victorious and called for visionary leadership by those aspiring to lead or represent the State at any level.

“We do not want blood shed or violence in any form in our State during the election and to make this happen we have called this Town Hall Meeting to interact with those who want to lead us particularly as Governor and the person we would vote for should be somebody we feel means well for the people and the State”. Ekwok maintained.

He said most people aspire to be Governors or to occupy some other political positions only just to fill their bank accounts while the rest the people suffer and to ensure that the person who will lead is someone who is competent and purposeful, the Church through prayers and massive votes would decide the persons fate.

“Often, Churches and their leaders are at the receiving end when bad leaders are in office because the people would come to us for sustenance and welfare packages and not the politicians since they can’t reach them so we must decide now who would be the right person to vote for as Governor of our State”.

The interaction which was attended by the Governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator John Owan Enoh, Social Democratic Party (SDP) Mr. Eyo Ekpo, Youth Democratic Party :YDP) Mr Emmanuel Undie and Action Democratic Party (ADC) Mr. John Ushie witnessed manifesto presentation by the candidates and question and answer session.

Senator Enoh of the APC said he has developed a seven point blue print which would serve as the agenda to guide his Government to revive all the critical sectors in the State including health, education, agriculture, etc.

“Many areas in this State need to be sorted out and we would begin with taking stock of what is wrong, what is to done and what area we need to focus more but I can assure you that we will run the State as though it is a country of its own in order to give it our best and get the best for our people”. He said.

Owan said his administration would not take the direct control of building industries but would create the enabling environment for those in the private sector to establish industries in the State.

Mr. Ekpo of the SDP said “We will restructure the basic infrastructure which have been abandoned for many years to decay and would be more proactive in settling boundary disputes to forestall communal conflicts and the attendant destruction it inflicts on the people and properties.”

Mr. Undie of the YDP said he would automate the State to ensure that revenue generation is more effective and leakages are reduced to the barest minimal to ensure that there is enough funds to support non-governmental organisations and small and medium scale industries to blossom in the state.

Present at the interaction were representatives of European Union Election Observer Mission.
