The Cross River State Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade has said that Cross Riverians made him “The Don” by returning him with “almost 99.9%” votes in the recently conducted general election.
Ayade said so in his address to Cross Riverians after been sworn-in at the UJ Esuene stadium, May 29th, 2019.
Except of his speech, “I give the honor, I give you the glory because you have just pronounced me ‘The Don’.
“My special friend, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ivara Esu who is indeed the Vice Chancellor of Cross River State. A man who has tutored and mentored so many young people who today sit in the same cabinet with him.
“Let me specially recognize Senator Liyel Imoke and Governor Donald Duke; these two young Cross Riverians made it possible for us to have the society we have today … and all that we are today are products of the foundation they started, mine was just to extend that consensus…
“Let me specially thank my brothers and sisters, than my friends who have come from the entire world to gather here to honor me. I am amazed and shocked at the people that have arrived here in this Calabar.
“Let me particularly thank the people of Cross River State, let me thank you because it is only by your power that I’m here. By the instrumentality of your own clairvoyance, by the arrogance of your own commitment. You have made it possible for me to come back here.
“Never in the history of Cross River State, we have never had opposition in this State, for the firs time Cross River State had a great challenge when Cross River State is not in the same party with the ruling party. And that gave opportunity for so many people who have been aggrieved to ventilate their anger accordingly and correspondingly political tension.
“My brothers and sisters it became almost clear as if we were almost losing out because there was this impression about the Federal character, the Federal might. Truly, truly fortunate in a history of Cross River never has the Governor delivered on almost every single polling boot, every single polling unit Ayade won, almost 99.9 percent … it’s not by my strength, it is not my capacity, it is you, you made it possible.” End of extract.
