Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Cross River State, Mr. Venatius Ikem, has said that stakeholders are those to decide which of the three senatorial districts in the State shall produce the governor in 2023.
In the last few days, there have been feverish debates by key politicians in the State over zoning, many insisting that zoning should no longer be respected while others have clung to the Calabar-Ogoja Accord.
Most politicians and PDP stakeholders from southern senatorial districts such as Senator Gershom Bassey, representing the district himself a governorship hopeful, has declared that the argument about zoning is uncalled for because all the zones have taken their turn, and it should now return to the south.
Reacting in an exclusive interview with Daily Post, Ikem said the stakeholders are entitled to their opinion, adding that such is good for democracy.
Ikem said, however, that the executive of the party is watching and listening attentively to the debate.
“At the appropriate time, we will take a decision on the matter one way or the other.
“We will mobilise all the critical organs of the party vested with the authority to take that decision to do so.
“Until then democracy must take its course without let or hinder, including free expression of their preferences.”
