Sweetest Kiddies Sanctuary has distributed sanitary pads and educational materials to students of Government Comprehensive Secondary school, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The NGO is a subsidiary of Sweetest Kiddies Empire, it’s objective is to spur every child to greatness shared 300 sanitary pads to girls, 60 copies of the Creative Director best-selling book – My childhood and 12 school sandals.
Nikita Nkese, Creative Director of the organisation said the support is geared to making learning easy for them.
According to the Creative Director apart from the educational materials, the health of the girl child is critical. “We embarked on sharing of these sanitary pads and other items because, according to World Health Organisation, 80% of girls in rural areas don’t have access to sanitary pads. What they use is leafs, dirty rags, tissue papers that at a long run causes infertility issues, so we sat and asked ourselves what can we do to be part of the solution to this particular challenge,” Nikita said.
She further added that, “I want to tell the students to try as much as possible to be very good children because the way Nigeria is going we need to inculcate into our children the right morals. The book I have written has impactful morals, the students can learn from. If they abide by it we will not have the challenges we are facing.
“Two, three days ago in Nigeria we have heard of 17, 19 years children killing a girlfriend and all of that; at that age, I was busy looking at how to write my WAEC and then the children are already killing. So there is something the society has not done right; we have failed them. That is why my message to them is to be better citizens. First, for themselves, their family and the society,” she implored.
In appreciation, the Head Teacher of the school, Dr. Okey Patricia lauded the efforts of Sweetest Kiddies Sanctuary.
Mrs. Okey prayed for increase for those who made it a success and beckoned on other organisations to emulate them.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss. Miracle Anthony, thanked Sweetest Kiddies Sanctuary for choosing the school for the outreach and promised they will make judicious use of the items given to them.
