Sweetest Kiddies Sanctuary has taken its sensitization and distribution of sanitary pads to Government Girls Secondary School, Big Qua Town, Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State, where 900 Lady Care sanitary pads were given out to students.
The NGO which is a subsidiary of Sweetest Kiddies Empire whose objective is to spur every child to greatness shared 900 sanitary pads to the all girls school on Monday, 21 February 2022.
Speaking with CrossRiverWatch, Nikita Nkese, Creative Director of the organisation said the vision which began in 2009, when she emerged Miss UNICAL.
The former Miss. Niger Delta 2012 while sensitizing the students on the need to rise above their peers and push for the stars also added that, girls should at all times strive to make themselves relevant in the society irrespective of their limitations.
“I really feel satisfied, I feel I have done something good at least even if it is a little but a touch and act of kindness. Making these children have hope or something better than what they’re used to. Specifically we came here to distribute Lady Care Sanitary pads and as you can see the students were happy to have us come to give them something most of them don’t have access to.
“As they have been given the pads today, they should work hard towards making sure they also bless humanity, not just collecting, they should be part of giving back too. They should be good girls that will grow into ladies that will impact society and teach the younger ones to be better.”
In appreciation, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Arit Ota Onaga said the teachers and students are delighted to receive from Sweetest Kiddies Sanctuary. Mrs. Arit applauded the kind gesture of the NGO but, however, said it shouldn’t end here, rather, a continuous process and called on other organizations to follow suit.
“I feel elated because Sweetest Kiddies Sanctuary chose the school and I know what it means for a girl to be talked to in an area that has always been like a frustration to most teenagers when they are growing especially their menstrual cycle. I am happy because it is not a common thing.
“Thank you, it is not all about coming to give them pads and go away, maybe they should always have another enlightenment program with them which from time to time to come and see how they are growing.
“As mothers, we have to tell them what menstruation is all about, the hygienic part of it, the consequences of it and then how to hold yourself; it is not a taboo, it is something that must come. We have to calm the nerve of the child, make them understand that all girl children don’t grow at the same pace.”
Appreciating the NGO, Miss Stella Gabriel on behalf of the students said the sensitization and distribution is timely as they have learnt new things regarding pad usage. The senior student said, the pad given to them will go a long way to save money for other vital things in the family.
