As the invasion of Nko community in Yakurr Local Government Area by men of the Nigerian Army continues to attract public rebuke, Governor Ben Ayade has ordered the State Commissioner of Police, and other Service Chiefs to move into the community with immediate effect.

Though the reason for the move cannot be ascertained at press time but looks like an inspection of the raid.

This was on the heels when men of the Nigerian Army were drafted from nearby Edor barracks in Ikom, Cross River, and 82 Division, Enugu to quell the communal war between Nko and Onyadama on Saturday 25 June 2022.

In the wee hours of Sunday 26 by 12 am, the soldiers staged a raid – razing down buildings and firing live bullets at villagers, alleging that six of their personnel were killed by Nko youths, an allegation the community vehemently denies.

Governor Ayade had ordered military sustenance in Nko after he had de-certified Chiefs of Nko, Onyadama, and all other traditional rulers in the two warring communities; a pronouncement which further generated public uproar.
