The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially presented the party’s flag to the Cross River State governorship candidate of the party, Mr. Effiong Nyong.
The exercise was done in a media parley held in Calabar, Cross River State by the Vice Chairman of ADC, South-South zone, Mr. Festus Igbonogba.
The party also announced its official merger with the Labour Party (LP) in the State and nationally. They endorsed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party for this Saturday’s poll.
Mr. Festus disclosed that they haven’t x-ray other candidates following the expulsion of the ADC presidential candidate for anti-party activities, the party needed to support Peter Obi.
“But for the other ones, we have 1,411 other candidates vying for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and among other positions.”
Similarly, the Action Alliance (AA) party in Cross River State has collapsed its structure for the guber candidate of ADC.
The governorship candidate of AA, Prince Effiong Effiong said it is important for him to retreat and give the chance to Mr. Nyong because he sees him as someone capable of fixing Cross River.
In his short remarks, the ADC guber candidate while re-echoing his three ‘Rs’ mantra of Restructuring, Reconciling, and Rehabilitating the State from the failed administration, said his government will be built on young people especially those in the creative industry.
The veteran media practitioner promised if elected, will preserve and protect the stifling civic space and have a robust relationship with the media.
He said the economy of Cross River State can be turned around in two years which can be achieved by creating 22 “local council development areas” that will give financial autonomy to local councils; promising he will not tamper with Local Government Funds.
Fielding questions from journalists, the ace broadcaster averred that “it is a social contract between me and the people; if by two years nothing is working, I will resign as a governor.”
Earlier, the State Chairman of ADC, Felix Atu said ADC and Nyong are the party and right man to restore Cross River to its old glory days.
The high point of the exercise was the question and answers section as well as handing over the ADC party flag.
