The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) student, Favour Chioma of the Department of Anatomy and Forensic Anthropology has received a fully funded Chevening scholarship for a master’s degree in Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation at the prestigious University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom.
The class of 2019 graduate disclosed this on her social media handle according to a lecturer in the varsity Victor Ndifon,where she said in her first attempt at application, she is among the 44 Nigerians picked for the scholarship out of 70,930 applications globally and 14,700 applications in Nigeria.
“I am delighted to be awarded a scholarship to study for a Master’s degree in Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation at the University of Central Lancashire, a top-ranking school for forensic science. More thrilling is that, it’s being awarded on my first attempt as one of the 44 Nigerian Scholars of the 2023/2024 cohort of the highly prestigious and competitive fully funded Chevening Scholarship (Chevening Awards UK in Nigeria), out of 70,930 applications globally and 14,700 applications in Nigeria. This is my dream course at my dream school with my dream scholarship.”
She continued: “My love for forensics began in my 300 level at UNICROSS when I offered a course titled: Introduction to Forensic Science. Since then, I desired opportunities that would equip me with the right blend of academic and technical expertise in forensic science to tackle sexual and gender-based violence.
“In tackling this major violent crime against women and girls, we cannot miss out on the role education plays in achieving gender equality and directly impacting women, peace, and security.”
Favour Chioma is the second UNICROSS student to receive a fully funded scholarship to study outside the shores of Nigeria in just a few weeks after 2016 set graduate of Mass Communication – Oku Essien Jrn in September 2023 received a fully funded scholarship to study at Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA from BSc to PhD level.
