Parents Enjoined To Take Keen Study Of Their Wards For Better Relationship

By Sylvia Akpan

Parents and caregivers have been enjoined to take a keen study of their children for a better understanding and relationship.

This was the summary of the foster care quarterly meeting organized by Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI) held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, where child protection actors said there is a need for a proper parent-to-child/children relationship.

The State Coordinator of Child Protection Network (CPN), Kebe Ikpi said it is the right of every child to play and rest, posting that if a child’s school does not have a playground, it is not worthy of a school.

He admonished parents on how to carry out proper discipline on their wards without infringing on their rights.

He said discipline is not the application of force and violence on a child rather a “simply means do as I do”.

On his part, the Principal Council of BRCI, James Ibor Esq, while intimating parents on the amended Child Rights Law, 2023 said every child is important and should be given equal treatment.

“Together you will raise these children and you will not have any complaints. Sometimes, there is always a need to separate children. If you see one child having physical influence over the other, you can separate them.

Reverend Ibe Mba of Canaan Life Family Mission, Calabar shared his experience with the child he is fostering and how well the child is doing.

Pastor Mrs. Kotaliman Omini, of Redeemed Christian Church of God, also shared her testimony with her foster daughter whom she adopted, and how much she feels loved again.
