Suspected Criminal Lynched By Angry Mob In Calabar

By Kelvin Ololo

A yet-to-be-identified man has been lynched by angry mobs at Ikot Ansa Bus stop, in Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The incident took place late Sunday night towards the wee hours of Monday within the Asimi Ita community where the middle-aged man was caught allegedly breaking into an apartment through the roof of the building.

Speaking to CrossRiverWatch one of the eyewitnesses who prayed anonymity, alleged that the suspect has been disturbing the peace of the area, snatching phones, and engaging in other forms of vices, especially during the rainy hours.

As of the time of this report, the corpse is yet to be evaluated as there was no presence of the security operatives at the scene.

All efforts made to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo proved abortive as she kept busing the calls placed to her.

Cases of jungle justice have been on the increase in the past three years in Cross River State and a few of those were Mrs Iquo Edet Eyo and four others who were in October 2022 tied, tortured, killed, and buried in the forest in Odukpani LGA of the State for alleged witchcraft.

A man in his late 20s identified as Eyo was in April 2023 set ablaze for allegedly stealing a phone at Edim Otop by Stream Road, Calabar Municipal Local Government Area, and many more reports.

The roof the suspect is said to have broken through.
