Edgerley Memorial Girls Secondary School Calabar has celebrated its 125th anniversary in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The all-girls school located at Edgerley, Calabar South Local Government of the State was established 125 years ago by Missionaries to encourage girls’ education.
Speaking to Mark the 125 anniversary, the National President, Edgerley Memorial Girls Secondary School, Calabar, Pst. Mrs. Eme Affiah, while welcoming all the alumna of the school, noted that the alma mater has produced great women who are making impacts in different strata of society, chanting “Truly as our school motto goes, ‘Not for school but for life’.
“We appreciate every contribution, donation, projects, participation, and every goodwill exhibited. You have made our work together and walking together an easy task.
“Kudos to the various class sets for staying true and committed to the course. The chairman and members of the central planning committee have worked tirelessly, with the guidance of the Vice President, Elder Mrs. Josephine Otu in making necessary arrangements to provide memorable experiences worth your while.”
The ceremony runs from 17th to 19th November 2023.
The event included the commissioning and handover of a borehole, flag, and school gate.
It was done by Prof. Hannah Etta who led the commissioning and official handing over of all completed projects by Edgerley Old Girls to the principal, Pst. Eme Affiah.
The event had in attendance, Eld. Mrs. Josephine Otu Ita Otu, Vice President, Mrs. Victoria Ekpo, Secretary, Mrs. Anastasia Willes, Assistant Secretary, Queen-Zoey Ansa, Financial Secretary, Mrs. Itoro Williams, Treasurer, Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, Welfare Officer 1, Okoho Ephraim, Welfare 2, Pst. Ekei Okpo-Ene, Prayer Coordinator, and Christy Ayi, Media Lead.
High points of the event include a musical festival and other varieties.
