UNICAL Professor Of Special Education, Patrick Egaga Kidnapped

A Professor at the Department of Special Education, University of Calabar (UNICAL) Professor Patrick Egaga, who was a member of the recent Panel of Investigation set up to enquire into the allegations of sexual harassment, abuse of office, and misconduct at the Faculty of Law, in the varsity has been kidnapped on Sunday night. 

The incident took place at the University of Calabar staff quarters in Calabar.

Professor Egaga who is the director of Servicom in the institution was one of the Professors who was recently entrusted with the task of investigating the controversial sexual harassment and related issues scandal.

However, barely 45 days after the report of the panel was submitted on Friday, September 29, 2023, he was whisked away by unknown gunmen.

CrossRiverWatch confirmed this from the school’s Public Relations Officer Effiong Eyor who said: “Though I can not speak much about the issue because we have not been officially briefed, but the incident is true, he has been kidnapped.”

Police spokesperson in the State SP Irene Ugbo, assured that  “we are working to secure his release” adding that the victim’s family has not reported the matter to the Police.

As of the time of this report,  UNICAL Management is yet to issue an official statement.
