The main opposition candidate Senator Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 2023 gubernatorial elections in Cross River State, has congratulated Governor Bassey Otu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) after the January 12th, 2024 Supreme Court judgment.
In a congratulatory message he signed, said: “We call on all and sundry to give His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, and those who work with him, all the support, advice, and prayers that they would need to make Cross River State, the dream homeland that we would all cherish. God bless Cross River State.”
Senator Onor who came second and was the main contender in the gubernatorial election, urged his supporters to give their support to Governor Otu and those working with him for the growth and development of Cross River State.
The Senator congratulated the Governor and his Deputy Hon. Peter Odey for the successful journey from the primaries through the main election and leading up to the final declaration at the Supreme Court which “typifies the entire gamut of every election cycle.”
The message reads: “On the 12th of January 2024, the Supreme Court in her judgment, confirmed Senator Bassey Edet Otu as Governor of Cross River State. I write, most sincerely, to congratulate the Governor and his Deputy, Rt. (Hon.) Peter Odey for the successful journey from the primaries through the main election and leading up to the final declaration at the Supreme Court, which typifies the entire gamut of every election cycle.
“On behalf of my entire team, I lavishly thank all those who believed in and stood by us; the clergy, across the Catholic and Protestant aisle; youths, elders, men, and women; party faithful across the three (3) Senatorial districts and even across parties and all those who shared in our genuine yearnings and aspirations for the development of Cross River State.
“I thank in particular The Caterpillar Movement in all its multifaceted dimensions and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ably led by the irrepressible Barrister Venatius Ikem for their support, prayers, and resilience throughout the period of this struggle to make Cross River State, a destination of excitement and splendor as well as an oasis of security and development.
