Director-General of the National Boundaries Commission NBC, Adamu Adaji, has underscored the pivotal role of the United Nations confidence-building initiatives along the Nigeria-Cameroon international boundary.

Speaking during a one-day interactive session held in Calabar, Adaji represented by Hadiza Abba, underscored the Commission’s dedication to preventing conflicts and nurturing a sense of belonging within border communities.

The Director-General further announced that the Commission has identified around 24 border communities in the initial phase of the exercise within a 3-kilometer corridor from the international boundary, and urged the Cross State Government to confirm the existence of the communities.

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor, Peter Odey, who doubles as Chairman of the State Boundaries Committee, expressed apprehensions over prolonged delays in border policies impacting community confidence, especially in the sensitive Bakassi region.

The event was attended by major stakeholders in the state, including the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi, and traditional rulers of four other Local Government Areas in the State.
