With the rejuvenated fuel scarcity and surfacing of long queues in most filling stations nationwide, the ruling Party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), has expressed fears that the current situation might lead to public aggression on the government.
The APC Chairman in Cross River State, Barrister Alphonsus Eba, in an open letter to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, urged him to look into the fuel scarcity by calling the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to order or the party will face backlash from already angry Nigerians.
He begged the President to do everything humanly possible to reverse the sad increment or at best, introduce partial subsidy to ameliorate the painful situation which is at the substratum of both social security and food security to avoid further untold crises that may precipitate.
Eba also prays Tinubu to negotiate with Dangote to fix fuel prices for Nigerians at reasonable subsidized cost. Adding that “I am totally against this price increment which is a harbinger that may consume our party’s electoral fortunes in the years to come.”
The letter reads:
*Our dear President Tinubu, I write to salute your tireless efforts in your quest to make life better for Nigerians and to humbly appeal to you to call NNPCL to order before we incur the wrath of Nigerians.
“I have been at the forefront of defending your Renewed Hope reforms and I have prayed and worked so hard for it to come into fruition. Sadly, just when the long anticipated Dangote Refinery commenced production today 3rd September 2024, NNPCL has done the unimaginable by increasing the pump price of fuel and the cries of all Nigerians including your genuine supporters is very loud and may be louder in the days and months to come if nothing is done about it.
“Your Excellency sir, i beg you in the name of God to do everything humanly possible to reverse this sad increment or at best, introduce partial subsidy to ameliorate this painful situation which is at the substratum of both Social security and Food security to avoid any untold crisis that this may precipitate.
“As we meet for our NEC on the 12th of September, 2024, I will reiterate this appeal with the best of intentions to save our party’s soul from premature political death.
“Your Excellency sir, I think it is time to negotiate with Dangote to fix fuel prices for Nigerians at reasonable subsidized cost.
“I am totally against this price increment which is a harbinger that may consume our party’s electoral fortunes in the years to come ( God Forbid ).
“The welfare and happiness of our people is and should be our centerpiece and focus now.
“I remain your sincere, trusted, reliable & loyal party man, diehard supporter and strongest believer in your ability to save Nigeria.
