Traditional Leaders In Cross River Reassured Of Government Commitment

The Government of Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, has committed its assistance to traditional leaders in each of the 18 local government areas, with a focus on improving the socio economic status of citizens.

He made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Paramount Rulers at the Bekwarra Local Government Council Headquarters on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Governor Otu represented by his Deputy, Honorable Peter Odey emphasized that the government is still dedicated to put the welfare of chiefs first in accordance with the administration’s “People First” slogan and underlined the critical role that traditional institutions play in upholding peace and order.

Governor Otu pointed to the government’s efforts in the five LGAs in the North to include road repair, healthcare, security, education, and agriculture. He promised to start new initiatives and finish those that were already underway. In order to increase food production and security, he also urged the residents of Bekwarra to support the governor’s agricultural programs.

The Paramount Ruler and Chairman of the Bekwarra Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Linus Ogbeche Odey, on behalf of the Royal Fathers, commended Governor Otu and his Deputy Governor Odey, for their vision and leadership in putting people-centered policies into action through the ongoing road projects and the supply of farm inputs to farmers throughout the state.

He assured the Governor of the traditional leaders’ commitment of working with the government.

The Paramount Ruler and Chairman of the Obanliku Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Uchua Amos Uyimulam, urged Otu to reinstate the Northern Festival, or Northfest, which acts as a focal point for the five LGAs. 

The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Michael Odere, the former member of the House of Representatives for the Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbor, the member of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Boki I, and the chapter chairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the five LGAs in the North, among others.
