The Government of Cross River State has declared Thursday, 31st October, and Friday, November 1, 2024 as public holidays ahead of November 2, Local Government Elections in the state.
In a press release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu on Wednesday evening, states that the holidays is in a bid to ensure full participation of all Cross Riverians in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2nd
Governor Otu who approved the holidays said the decision is to allow ample time for those who have to travel from Calabar to various parts of the state, particularly those in far-flung areas, to exercise their civic duty and vote in the election.
Otu urges all residents to take advantage of the two-day holidays to engage in the electoral process and make their voices heard.
He added that it is imperative that every citizen participates actively.
Meanwhile, following the recent announcement regarding public holidays for the upcoming LG elections in the State, the government clarified that only banks and other financial institutions operating within the state will remain open on Thursday, October 31, and Friday, November 1,2024.
All State civil servants and political office holders are therefore not covered by the exemption.
In another press release issued by the Governor Otu’s spokesman, said the clarification is necessary to ensure that residents have uninterrupted access to essential financial services during the election period.
