Chairmen of political parties in Cross River State have signed the Peace Accord and pledged a violence-free election ahead of the November 2nd local government polls in the state.
The Peace Accord was held on October 31, 2024, at the conference hall of the Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, State Police Headquarters, Diamond Hill, Calabar.
The exercise is part of the Stakeholders’ Security Meeting aimed at fostering peace and unity among political parties ahead of the upcoming elections.
The meeting was convened by the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon Grimah, who opened the session with a welcome address that underscored the importance of peaceful political engagement for stability in the state.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the State Security Adviser to the Governor, Maj. Gen. Obono Ubi (Rtd), and the Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), Dr. Ekong Edet Boco. Both speakers emphasized collaboration among political stakeholders for a violence-free election process.
The Accord featured an interactive session attended by a diverse group, including the Police Command Management Team, the Security Adviser for the Southern Senatorial District, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Intelligence, service commanders from sister security agencies, and members of the media.
Following the interactive discussions, the Peace Accord signing was coordinated by the Command’s Legal Officer, CSP Bright Festus, in which political parties’ chairmen pledged to uphold peace throughout the electoral period.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, DCP Uche Obiozo, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees for their commitment to peace. Prayer was rendered by Rev. Omaleko and a group photograph capturing the unity and resolve of the stakeholders present.
The State Police Command says it remains committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all political activities in the state.
