Cross River Governor Mourns Departed Commissioner For Tourism, Abubakar Ewa

The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, has expressed deep shock over the passing of his cabinet member and Commissioner for Tourism and Culture, Hon. Abubakar Robert Ewa, who died in a private medical facility on Wednesday evening after participating in the State Executive Council meeting, where he contributed to the proceedings and later excused himself from the meeting.

In a statement released by Nsa Gill, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, he described the late commissioner as a dedicated public servant and a passionate advocate for the tourism and culture sector in the state.

He highlighted the late commissioner’s contributions to the development of the state’s tourism industry, including attracting investments to tourist sites.

“The state has lost a valuable asset. His dedication to serving our people and his commitment to promoting the rich cultural heritage of our state will be greatly missed,” Governor Otu expressed.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the late commissioner.

The funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
Late Ewa who was in his early sixties, had served the state in various capacities: as Secretary and later Chairman of the Boki Local Government Council. He also served as Special Adviser on Community Relations and Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force before his appointment as Commissioner of Tourism and Culture in August 2023.

Ewa’s demise broke out first by CrossRiverWatch who passed on in the evening Wednesday January 8th at the Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
