Court Reinstates Sacked Austine Angba as UNICROSS VC

The National Industrial Court sitting in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, has ordered the reinstatement of Professor Austin Angba as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) after months of sack.

In Suit No. NICN/CA/34/2024, the court held that Professor Angba’s suspension by the university’s governing council in 2024, violates the provisions of the Act that established UNICROSS.

The court directed that he be reinstated immediately, marking a decisive moment in the ongoing governance issues at the institution.

This ruling puts to bed months of uncertainty regarding UNICROSS’s leadership and is expected to have considerable implications for the university’s administration.

This is coming a few weeks the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu dissolved the Governing Council of the school and appointed Professor Francisca Bassey as the new Acting Vice Chancellor of the University and Dr. Fidelis Ugbo as the Pro-Chancellor.

Professor Augustine was suspended indefinitely months back in 2024 by the varsity Governing Council on alleged misappropriation and misconduct.
