CrossRiverWatch To Participate In CJID’s Press Freedom Workshop

The Centre for Journalism, Innovation and Development (CJID) is inviting Cross River State and Niger Delta foremost investigative media outfit, CrossRiverWatch to participate in a workshop centered on civic space.

The Editor-in-chief of CrossRiverWatch, Citizen Agba Jalingo, will be speaking and sharing his expertise on Navigating Strategic Lawsuits and Press Freedom Challenges in Nigeria.

In a letter signed by the Chief Executive Officer of CJID, Dapo Olorunyomi and addressed to CrossRiverWatch and the EIC, said the event is scheduled for April 16, 2025, at the Premium Times Board Room, 9A, Ademola Ajasa Street, Omole phase 1, in Lagos, by 9:00 AM.

He said the aim is to provide newsroom managers and media executives with an avenue of sharing ideas and strategies and equipping journalists with the skills and knowledge needed to address growing legal threats to press freedom.

The workshop will feature a Media Executives’ Dialogue on the topic ‘Navigating Legal Challenges, Laws That Criminalize Journalism, And Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPPs), where participants will gain practical strategies for upholding ethical journalism while countering the growing legal challenges faced by the media.

Mr. Dapo expressed optimism that the workshop will serve as a valuable resource in safeguarding the integrity and independence of journalism in Nigeria.
