Former Governor Ayade And The Macbeth Witches BY AGBA JALINGO

The three witches in Shakespeare’s famous play, Macbeth, were notorious for being sinister supernatural figures who delivered cryptic prophecies that ignited Macbeth’s ambition, leading to his tragic downfall. They represented chaos, moral ambiguity and the blurring of fate and free will through their ambiguous predictions and manipulative influence.

They always greeted Macbeth with highfalutin titles and all manner of panegyrics, that meant nothing other than sycophancy. They were ladened with ambiguous and misleading prophecies and predictions that made Macbeth feel invincible.

They embodied the facade of the unnatural and reflected the play’s theme of appearance versus reality. They instigated moral confusion where good and evil are indistinguishable. “Fair is foul and foul is fair.”

They were famous and powerful, only because they were adepts in tempting, deceiving and ultimately driving Macbeth to his bloody end. I see a lot of those witches around our former Governor as 2027 approaches. They want to push him to Golgotha.

Just like when he was in office as governor, instead of listening to my caution, he decided to lock me up in jail for doing nothing to him, today again, I am still the lonely voice in the wilderness, saying “keepest thou the remaining respect and prestige that is left of you. Goest thou not into a contest thou shalt lose woefully” but the witches around him are urging him on.

They only want to be ward coordinators for the campaign that will lose, but they would have cashed out. They want to milk the loot. Nothing more. But I will still be hated and misconstrued and it doesn’t matter any way.

When the gods lose their iron teeth of chastisement, they must also forfeit the sacrifice of appeasement.
