Five Cross Riverians, one resident of the State and two babies are among the 64 Nigerians arrested in April by Uganda’s National Citizenship and Immigration Control, NCIC in an operation with disputed dates, sources familiar with the matter have told CrossRiverWatch.
The Quintet and the resident (names withheld) arrived in Uganda alongside the remaining 58 on August 11th, 2025 as part of a religious program organised by Exalting Jesus Life Missions, an interdenominational ministry operating in Virginia, the United States, Lagos in Nigeria, and Adjumani District, in Uganda.
The NCIC had in a statement said only 62 people were arrested, its statement did not include the two babies – both five months old.
The timing of the arrest remains disputed. While the NCIC stated in its official release that the 62 individuals were taken into custody on April 27th, 2026, insiders familiar with the detention told CrossRiverWatch that the raid occurred two days earlier, on the morning of April 25th, 2026.
According to sources, the group was conducting morning prayers at their lodge when immigration officials arrived, and they were transferred to the outskirts of Kampala the same day where they have been detained since then.
The two-day gap raises questions about the NCIC’s reporting timeline and whether the agency’s statement omitted the initial detention period.
